conquer fear

We’ve all felt that paralyzing fear at times that leaves us with a feeling that there’s no way out of this situation. At moments like that, we wish we had a magical wand that could be waved and all our fears would go away. The truth is, it is quite possible to conquer fear, but it doesn’t take a magical wand to do it.

So, are you ready to find out how you can conquer your fears and manifest the life you’ve been dreaming of?

How to Conquer Fear and Stop it From Controlling You?

Like it or not, fear is a part of life.

To conquer fear doesn’t mean never feeling fear. Conquering fear is more about controlling our reactions to it and preventing it from taking over our life.

Here are few tips you can use to conquer fear and build a better life:

1.     Understand That Being Courageous Doesn’t mean Never Facing any Fears

Fear is a natural emotion. You don’t have to feel ashamed about feeling fear because it’s simply being human. Nobody is born fearless and no one can completely be free from fears.

Courage doesn’t mean being able to not feel fear, because that’s impossible. You can train your mind to not get overwhelmed by all the negative emotions, including fear. But, fear cannot be completely absent from  your life. If  you get rid of one fear, you might find yourself facing another fear later.

Fear is a part of the human experience and you can be courageous while feeling fear. Don’t wait for fear to magically disappear from your life before you start working on your goals, or start taking actions for your life.

2.     Do It Anyway

So, once that you’ve realized that fear is never going to disappear, stop waiting for fearlessness to miraculously come to you.

To conquer fear, you need to start taking actions despite all the fears you’re facing.

Don’t let your fear direct your decisions. You might have fears about certain things that you want to do or want to achieve – don’t let that fear stop you from doing it. For example, you might be afraid that you’re going to be a terrible mother, because you’re not good with children. The truth might be that the other moms you see as good mothers also might have tried different methods with their kids to actually find the ones that work.

It’s all about pushing through the fear and trying different things to find the one that works.

Probably, you’re afraid of doing something because you haven’t done it yet.

Do what needs to be done again and again until it’s in your comfort zone.

It won’t be simple, but it will keep getting easier.

Let me share my own experience with you.

As a Hijabi in real life, I was determined not to show photos of me on social media. When I started my online business, I was anxious people might not want to do business with someone who doesn’t show her face. But, I continued putting myself out there by showing my work and my expertise and I got my first client within two weeks. And then another client, and then another. Eventually, I got booked for three months. I was able to conquer my fear only by just doing it.

3.     Think of What Might Happen If you Don’t Conquer Your Fears

In order to conquer fear, you need to be ready to take action.

Just think how will you feel about not doing anything about your fears in future?

How will you feel about not conquering your fears 10 years from now?

That guilt and regret might be stronger than the fears you’re feeling right now. If you let your fear direct your life now, in future, you might end up with a huge regret and the realization that you could’ve made all the difference.

The opportunities you have today will not last forever. Fear is always going to be there – you cannot be completely fearless. But you can always take action despite being afraid.

Keep taking action despite your fears and it will become a habit. You’ll learn to control your fears instead of letting them control you, by doing it again and again.

We don’t conquer fear by waiting for the fear to go away.

4.     Dealing with Unwelcomed Consequences

What if we’re not sure about the consequences of whatever actions we’re going to take?

Whatever you do can either go smoothly, or it can not work the way you want, or you can end up with some unpleasant consequences.

The fear of unwanted results can also leave you paralyzed at times. But, you have to grow out of that fear and learn how to deal with such a situation.

It things didn’t work out the way you had wanted them to, you can always try something else.

But, what if it blows away the whole situation?

The secret sauce to dealing with such a situation is to plan ahead. Stay prepared for the worst thing that can happen. I’m not saying that you should start visualizing the worst of scenarios. It’s a big no, no.

The point is to prepare you for the possible negative outcomes of your action.

Just sit down and think how your action can result in something uncomfortable. Don’t overthink. Don’t obsess over the negative aspects of things – just be prepared. Sometimes, mildly unpleasant situations impact us a lot because we’re unprepared. If you plan ahead, you’ll be able to control your reaction.

Maybe, you’re thinking of having a discussion with someone who’s a difficult person – it can be your boss, a colleague, your spouse, or a parent. Just put yourself in their shoes and think what can enrage them and make them react negatively. Then, ask yourself, what’s the best way of dealing with this situation effectively?

If someone you’re dealing with gets angry, you have to calm yourself down and see what  you can do to deal with this situation.

Maybe, you’re afraid that a new project might not turn out to be a success. Just think what’s the worse thing that can happen and what actions  you can take to deal with any unwanted circumstances.

Don’t spend too much time thinking about the possible negative outcomes. Most of the times, the worse is never going to show up. just be conscious and precise enough to plan your actions ahead.
